I’m now 100% convinced that all the posts on EBR forums and others that mention him by name are sock puppets. He then replied with no useful information about parts (you know, the question I asked) and just told me that my warranty is out, WHICH I ALREADY FUCKING KNEW! and he asked me for my serial number for the third fucking time, like we hadn’t been going back and forth for months and months. I tried to see if Chawn knew what the problem was, the part I needed, how much it would cost, etc. The motor still kicks in with the cadence sensor, but the pedals are totally disengaged from the drivetrain. Not even after, on my fourth ride post-machine shop fiasco, the pedals slipped and stopped engaging the crank. He also said if I was this bothered I should “get a lawyer”. He is the worst piece of shit douchebag I’ve ever dealt with. ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT IN THE FIRST PLACE AND I DID NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING INVOLVING THE MOTOR TO BE WORKED ON!Įvery time, Chawn said “cant get in the middle”. Never, ever, ever is a motor supposed to go to the machine shop. How in the fuck is a company able to justify having dealers, essentially product ambassadors, who have no idea what they’re doing and worse yet have no training.Īny motor issue, as Chawn said, is supposed to be handled by the dealer sending the motor in to izip and it’s replaced. They’re supposed to sell and service Izip bikes. Long story short and months of emails summarized:Ĭhawn Weingarten says that “it wouldn’t be their place” to get in the middle of me and my LBS. I had waited months, I took my bike and paid the ridiculous $160 “machine shop” bill (no receipt from the machine shop) and decided I was going to take this to izip so they could bring heat down on the dealer. They re-routed my front brake cable UNDER the fork, above the tire. When I finally get a hold of them, they tell me they are waiting for the motor to get out of the “machine shop”.ĮXCUSE ME? I have no clue what they fuck they were doing. When I finally caught them open one day I said “gimme new brake pads, and either a new chainwheel or maybe hammer out the chainwheel so it’s flat and the chain no longer slips and the shifting issues go away”. My LBS is AWOL for months, signs on the door with different bullshit excuses everyday I went there. Well, he just ignored it when I brought it up.Īnyways, the real stupidity kicks in 2018. No apologies, no acknowledgment of inadequate service, total denial by Mr. So I, and likely many other Izip customers, had a large portion of their warranty eaten up by a bike that the company knew was faulty. I found out through the LBS/dealer where I got the bike (who would be a major player of ineptitude in this story later) that the 2016 Dash was faulty because the motor didn’t effectively integrate the torque sensing with the other sensors and this resulted in a lot of motor failures. IZip/Currie has the warranty start at the date of original sale, no exceptions. Except for the fact that unlike respectable ebike manufacturers like Bosch, Yamaha, Brose, etc. They replaced it the second time with a 2017 Dash. Anyone who wants them can PM me and I’ll show you. If I posted the huge, insane, ludicrous series of ridiculous emails I exchanged with one Chawn Weingarten it would take me hours. But I feel it’s a very necessary public service announcement to anyone interested in ebikes, especially novices and those looking to buy.
